One Month Before One Year Later

This is the week that the first wave of pre-One-Year-Later books shipped from DC. Robin, Teen Titans, JLA, Superman, Hawkman, Green Arrow, and JSA were some of the most riveting comics I've read in many, many months; some of the books (Green Arrow in particular) were absolutely enthralling, and I found myself wondering how in the world the book is going to progress from its shocking finale to the already-publicized Green-Arrow-as-mayor-of-Star-City next month.

The fact that DC is even attempting something this bold, this far-reaching, and this complex deserves nothing but kudos. They're not just attempting it, though--they're making it work, and they're doing it in such a way that anyone who tries one of these "cliffhanger" DC books should be adding 52 (the book that will fill in the missing year, explaining how we get "from here to there eventually"). This is perhaps the biggest continuity event ever attempted in comics, and DC is pulling out all the stops to ensure that it happens--and that it happens on time.

If you haven't been reading the core DCU series prior to this event, now's the time to start. There are no comics on the stands with more suspense, more twists, and more excitement!

  1. Thanks for recommending Teen Titans this week. I loved seeing the events of Infinite Crisis #4 through a different lens, with lots more insight into what the Titans are dealing with as a team.

The Superman issue was a little confusing in its presentation, but I think I understand where it's headed.

JLA, on the other hand, seemed pretty weak. I just didn't feel that same sense of impact that the other books are getting. Harras didn't leave me with the feeling that this was the last issue of JLA as we've known it. Fairly empty comic calories.
